![]() It's better than a lot of recent Nintendo games because it's a more traditional video game soundtrack, but it's nothing special either, and it kind of sounds 20 years out of date. It seems about average for 2D Mario, which frankly has never had a history of really great music in the grand scheme of things. ![]() Those entire first three world themes are something most other Mario games cover in their first two levels, but it never really bothered me in World.Ĭome to think of it, this is something I noticed too and it’s kind of interesting that you don’t see this aspect of world discussed much, or I guess “called out” for. That always kind of struck me as a cool subversion of expectations, same with Yoshi’s Island and Donut Plains both being “grasslands,” but with enough subtle differences that you can still tell them apart despite being cohesive, then Vanilla Dome being all underground. “World 4” simply being the set of bridges with only like 3 athletic courses that connects worlds 3 and 5 doesn’t seem like something Nintendo would design today, but it made sense in context. ![]() But I guess that lent the game a bit of cohesion that isn’t really present in other games where you can see the dividing line between grasslands and desert for example.
